The Great Pyramids of Giza are the oldest and only one still in existence of the Seven Wonders of the World. They are also the biggest pyramids built in Ancient Egypt and it took approximately 20 years to built one. Actually the pyramids are meant to be tombs for ancient pharaohs and that is why the area is also called Giza Necropolis.

The biggest of all is Pyramid of Cheops, standing at 146.7 m. (481ft) high and consists of 2.3 million blocks of limestone and granite. Built around 2560 BC. it held the title of tallest man made structure for more than 3800 years.

The Giza Pyramid Complex is actually a huge area with about 62 500 m.² of surface and distance between pyramids are much larger than when seen from distance. This whole piece of desert is under UNESCO heritage and important part of it is also the Sphinx.

Nobody actually knows how old is the Sphinx and who built it. It is the oldest one of all and it is believed that it was here long before Ancient Egyptians came to this area.

Fun fact: All the great conquerors (Alexander the Great, Napoleon etc.) who looked the Sphinx in the eyes experienced downfall shortly after. It is said that they realised how small they are in comparison to the Great Sphinx, so be careful how you look at her.
