A gymnasium with no rowing machine or treadmills . These gladiators must have been seriously under-excersied !!
Agree with every word you say Lynn, I also love the place !
I love this place. People often ask me, if you could only go one place in the world, what would you recommend. I always say Rome, without hesitation. And I have been many, many places, but there is so much history here, plus the Vatican, ruins, museums, sculptures, art, catacombs, everything you imagine Europe and the ancient world to have, plus the food is incredible. Go here first, then everywhere else.
This is a marvellous view
13dec19--In the Amphitheatrum Caesareum, a Roman invention, were held shows that today we would condemn with horror: the most popular were the venationes (hunts) and the munera (gladiatorial games). The Roman ruling class was obliged, by law and by the expectation of the people, to organize these shows to gain the favour of the citizens. The organization of the games, which involved great expenses, became a matter of public interest and was regulated by many laws. EnJoy EnJoy
James Mcintosh....Good man, will look at the website and thanks for information.
Yes Mel. I went a good few years ago and as I was a member of Cats Protection I was interested to see their work. They have website Torre Argentina to give people a view of what they do. When I returned home I donated to them a couple of times and received a lovely thank you.
James Mcintosh....have you been to Torre Del Argentina as I’m very interested, sounds marvellous.
7dec19--The Colosseum or Coliseum though in olden times Romans referred to it as Amphitheatrum Caesareum or hunting theatre, was built by the Flavian emperors Vespasian, Titus and Domitian between 71-72 and 80 AD as a gift to the Roman citizens in the place where the previous Emperor Nero (37-68 AD) had his residence, the Domus Aurea. If you like ruins and cats the place to go is Torre del Argentina where Julius Caesar was murdered. The ruins are home to an organisation which looks after the homeless cats of Rome .
13nov19--The Colosseum, is the largest building in the world constructed mostly of travertine. Quarried in Tivoli the travertine was transported 20 miles to Rome. EnJoy EnJoy
