Located in the city center, 10th April Square commemorates Odessa’s Liberation from the German-Romanian Nazi occupation. Towering over the square is the gray marble monument entitled ‘Wings of Victory’, erected in 1984, year that marked the 40th anniversary of the city's liberation. The monument’s gold star crown symbolizes victorious soldiers, its engraved text awards the city the honorary title of "Hero City" and the Odessa soldiers that of "Heroes of the Soviet Union".
