Daiof38Squadron this is 2016.You used to buy a packet of fags for 10 pennies in the old days plus you should know that duty free is not like it use to be in the old days. Cheaper to buy things like that in the streets. Beside That goes on everywhere even in the Uk.

Mary-Anne, I was wondering the same thing, thought it was slabs of stone but there is someone right now who is moving them.

When Malta Airport ran the service, it was entirely free from any deception. If you believe a 'mark-up' of 100% is common practice, then, carry on shopping where you feel most inclined. Historically, the Royal Navy, and many other nationalities, used the Islands 'Duty Free' Providers. Please excuse a geriatrics spelling. 'Sacchoni & Speed' - well known for many, many, years. These days, Charles Greche, can offer the same service that Sacchoni & Speed offered.
Ask them why the Airport is so blatently 'ripping off arrivals'. They cannot comprehend the logic.

What a wonderful introduction to the Island - to see your spending money 'fleeced' before you even step into the taxi to your hotel.

Why pick on Malta when it's the same everywhere you go.

I have an allergic reaction to any Vodka, other than Finlandia. The Islands Airport Duty Free Shop, obviated an allergic reaction. Two days later, I nearly choked on my Finlandia, on finding it was half the price elsewhere on the Island.
I can provide a 60 year association with the Island of Malta. Duty Free used to be run by Air Malta. In the days of the Lire - say 22 years ago, the Finlandia price was close to 3 Lire a 75cl bottle.
Needless to say, whereas incomming visitors used to divert into the Duty Free - ahead of scavenging for their suitcases, now, within the baggage reclaim hall, you encounter a practically 'dead on it's feet' entity. Why? Because there is no earthly reason to be 'ripped of'f on your first day of entry into the Island of Malta. The same applies when you leave!

It disgusts me that the point of entry, is operated by people who do not represent what Malta is about.
If the Tourism Board took any notice, they would realise the blight this situation cast's on everyone who first enters Malta.
