I'm wondering if they do, have done, anything special for Christmas on this location. It's such an interesting spot for only a chess match every 2 yrs. I've known the story for a long time but only this year saw this cam. I love the castle on top of the hill/mountain with the Great Wall of Marostica leading up to it.

Fantastic effort by the construction team cleared the site in just one day, if that was in the UK
the site would have been a sea of fluorescent jackets and dozens of people wandering around with clip boards and of course it would have taken at least three days to do the same job.

17sep18--Date: Friday, 21 & Saturday, 22 September 2018 21:00 : Marostica " Opera On Ice " - Italian Rhythmic Symphony Orchestra - Orchestra Conductor Diego Basso "Opera on Ice" now opens in the historic and elegant Piazza degli Scacchi di Marostica. The incredible and unique show is the only one of its kind with famous ice skaters performing to the most renowned opera arias.
The Piazza provides a wonderful setting for the performance with a central ice rink of about 800 square meters. In the background, one can see the beauty of the Lower Castle as well as the orchestra, the choir, and the live soloists. EnJoy EnJoy

13sep18--Piazza degli Scacchi in Marostica = Chess Square in Marostica : Of the four shows the 5pm Sunday pageant was the most enjoyable for viewing here. Using two browsers , one for each 'live-feed', viewers had great seats for the event. Audio was excellant, the Master of Ceremoies (MC) could be heard clearly, period musical instruments were thrilling, and cheers and applause of the spectators was great. Events started about 5:45 with the MC explaining and setting up the scene. Introductions of the characters and players exiting from the castle and parading around the square with drummers and Flag Dancers ( flagging ). Living chess pieces were introduced with about a dozen horses in precious costumes. Charming ladies and intrepid knights, jokes zanni, jugglers and spitfires. Archers and halberdiers, infantrymen and knights, falconers, pages and bridesmaids. The chess game started at 6:45 and victory at 7:05pm. At the end of the challenge a triumph of fires, lights and festive shouts greeted the winner. The castle is illuminated with white light if the victory had been won by the knight Lionora, was secretly in ❤ love ❤. EnJoy EnJoy

31aug18--Players in period costumes enacting the courtly loves and intrigues of the 15th century nobles Rinaldo d’Angarano and Vieri da Vallonata competing for the favours of Lionora, the beautiful daughter of the Castellano di Maròstica. More than 300 people compete in the game, dressed as knights, damsels, archers and other roles, and their moves are dictated by real international grand chess masters. EnJoy EnJoy
