At 5.15pm in the UK it is pitch black night time, in Puerto de la Cruz it is also 5.15pm but broad daylight. We are on the same time zone. How does that work?

TerryB, Many thanks for info about Xmas lights etc. I'll have to get a move on after my hotel dinner and get down into town. Bring the sun on!
Brian I'll be flying there the same day. We were there last year the same time and the Tuesday was the day of the Xmas Lights switch on and carol services etc. Puerto was real busy tourist wise. It was strange all the Xmas things happening and we were in shorts it was about 24C most days. Hope the temperatures are the same this year. :)
The Canaries name is from the latin Canariae Insulae meaning Island of Dogs due to numbers of dogs on Gran Canaria. The canary bird is named after the islands not the other way round.

Raining there today Brian I hope for your stay the weather is better. BTW, are there canaries on the Canary Islands? Just curious.
