The magnificent Cumbre Vieja Volcano rises above this island and constantly erupts lava fountains and ashes. Its name means "Old Peak" or "Old Summit" and is an active volcanic ridge, about 1,949 m (6,394 ft) high.
As one of the world's most active volcanoes, it could collapse and its Strombolian eruptions could cause overwhelming tsunamis and earthquakes. The last eruption was on September 2021. More than that, this volcano is also a popular tourist destination, ideal for hikers and climbers.
