its so sad to see the place empty ,virtually no one in the street and the restaurant closed ,such a contrast to my last visit in October when I could hardly get moved walking through Republic street. gan canny and keep ah had.
Tables back on road level again, but now with two rows.
I see the tables are spreading upwards now instead of outwards.
Monday morning and a historical event happening today, the new Prime Minister to be installed. GAC
I like the music it attracts the customers to the cafe. Glad to see the people enjoying themselves here. GAC
@John G. Just after posting, I realised that I had said that Malta Indepedence Day was on the 24th September - it should, of course, have said the 21st September. Apologies for my senior moment. LOL
@John G. Yes I remember Kingsway very well. That was in the days when Valletta was entered through the magnificent Kingsgate. The Triton fountain was still a roundabout in 2015, but by 2018 it had become a plaza. I stood about 10 feet away from Prince Philip when he unveiled the independence plaque on the 24th September 1964. Kingsway remained so named at least until I left Malta in 1965, so I don't recall it being called Strada Reale.
John G - Before it was Strada Reale in Italian. Independence fitted that it will become Republic Street.
I think it´s just fair if the waiters get a bonus, because they have to listen to this music for weeks.
Who remembers when this road was called Kingsway and the mothers used to chaperone their daughters here every evening?
DGB - It is the season of goodwill. Much needed in Malta these days
Never mind the music, as long as temperature stay in late teens always good to watch
Derek James Bevan .... I heard Slade's Merry Christmas on this cam last night .... you can't get away from it anywhere! I was in Malta (Sliema) with my wife this time last year and we had a great week. Wish we were there now but will have to wait 'till next June.Regards to all ..... Gary
Bah humbug Christmas songs already. Gan canny.
Difficult times in Malta at the moment !
A different view today! No tables but plenty of police and barriers at the top of the road.
