The legendary Acropolis - Athens

The Parthenon is the largest and most important structure of the Acropolis and attracts the admiration of the entire world since centuries. The work for the construction of this all-marble temple of Athena began in 447 BC under the direction of architects Iktinos and Kallikratis. The temple was completed in 438.

The rocky hill of the Acropolis, which dominates the center of modern Athens, was the greatest and most magnificent temple of the ancient town, dedicated primarily to its patron goddess, Athena.

In grand style and with the air of a bygone era, the Electra Palace Athens, a welcoming and exclusive hotel welcomes you in the heart of Athens. The Hotel Electra Metropolis Athens is right next to the Acropolis and is a good choice for anyone wanting to stay to the ''heart' of Athens.

    I have been to Athens several times for day excursions from cruise ships, but once we stayed for a few days before a cruise. We arrived during the night and just to have a look, I pulled the drapes to check out the view. What a wonderful surprise to see the Acropolis all aglow at night just as it is on this cam. I don't recall the hotel, but it may have even been this one. Anyway, I love this cam. Thanks for providing.

    @luca
    In Athens, buildings are not allowed to surpass twelve floors so as not to block the view towards the Parthenon. Specifically up until 1968 the maximum allowed height of a building was 35 meters and from 1985 to now it’s 27 meters. There are several exceptions though, such as the Athens Towers, the Atrina center and the OTE central building which all exceed that level. This is due to them either being built far away from the centre, or to the fact that they were constructed during periods of political instability. The city's tallest structure is the Athens Tower, reaching 103m and comprising 28 floors.
