Thanks andr, I did look at "boccadasse antica" as you suggested to find the old photos too. They were so fascinating, as all historical photos are, but these were so special to see a place I love to watch on cam in days gone by. Also some interesting storm photos and even some artwork. It was fun to go through everything. Thanks again.

Thanks andr---(changed my nickname from user) I found the old photos----seems like there were a couple of exterior staircases leading down to the boats.

Hello andr- Around when, what years would this ladder have been in use? I have been trying to find older pictures of the beach house/restaurant on the internet, but even those photos that look like they may have been taken in the 1950's or 60's do not show much of anything different. I'm interested in the history-
    Thanks!----"cm in nyc"

actually next to the hole (always present) there was a wall with a ladder that went down to the sea and next to an apparatus for lowering the boats. unfortunately it is not possible to attach photos

If you look really closely, and also go on Google street walk, it looks like the alleyway 'hole' with the chain in the side of the house was at one point larger and square. Like a doorway, with the steps leading to the water. Then was later partially filled in- and some of it crumbled. Any old pictures of something like this? "cm in nyc"

the one in the wall is not a collapsed hole but a tunnel dug to lower the boats of the terrace of the house which in ancient times was not a restaurant but a private house

I've been thinking about that for a fortnight. How the heck do you tackle a job like that?
No mortar I know would cure in those conditions.

At least these folks didn't get the horror of washed up debris like they got along the coast at Albenga ~ that had to be seen to be believed!
Life threatening storms and covid19... what a year it has been fo one of my favourite places?

Wow the beach erosion is pretty bad. I believe those are some kind of tube that was buried?
