We get mainly westerly winds and this camera is facing west and directly in the path pf anything blown from the sea so always gets battered with sand and salt spray.

oh dear, it's worse today. Maybe we'll have a little rain over the weekend and it will clean the lens. In the past few weeks it has been such a clean and clear camera.

Saying 429 people online, not sure what they are looking at as I can't see a thing!

Thanks for the extra info Phil. Sound like a lot of work went into the Comedy Carpet. I looked it up on google and spent ages reading some of the quotes and catch lines from so many great comedians. I could see myself enjoying a wall sized version of this at home.

Evidently, the council made a bit of a mess of the Comedy Carpet. The title panel is now at the side nearest to the camera, on it’s own. It was designed to be, and originally positioned for a short time, on the side nearest to the Tower, but it was right up to the tram tracks, and people were standing on the tracks to read it! The council, who had originally approved the project, decided that it was unsafe. That’s why there is now no border on that side. It should never wear out though. It’s made rather like a slice of Blackpool rock. Each letter is cut out of either granite or coloured concrete, and is several inches thick. All the letters were then positioned and embedded in concrete panels.

Ray it is called The Comedy Carpet.
It is filled with catchphrases quotes and sayings from lots of comedians.
Some of which can be read from the top of Blackpool Tower.
    Google it to see pictures.

I haven’t been to Blackpool since the late 1980s. What is the light area in the picture used for. Looks like concrete, but is it a market hard standing, skate park, band stand? Thanks.

@supra John, I totally agree with you! Some people are just over sensitive about the whole distancing thing, yes 2 metres but the folks I’m watching are well over that amount!

Cool story Julie but not everybody is living in the same fear that you are. What are you going to do, stay locked up forever? Ive been watching the cam and Blackpool is largely dead with very few people walking around. The people that are out are breaking no rules and just as nobody is forcing you to go out, you should not be telling others that they should not be out. Being on a wide open beach is far less likely to result in you catching a virus than an enclosed supermarket.

I have not gone out for 8 weeks. But alot of these people have gardens but still seem to think it's OK to go to beaches, I would love to but I don't want a 2nd wave which will be on it's way cos the people don't understand what social distancing means. I live in Nottingham by the way and we have no close beaches but wouldn't dream of going there cos the local people don't want visitors to their seaside resorts.
