Starting from 21 October 2019 and until February 2020, the Monumental Fireplace of the Swiss Royal Hall of Guards at Palazzo Reale will be affected by a restoration intervention aimed at bringing it back to its former glory.
The Caminetto ( Fireplace ), surmounted by putti ( a cherub or a cupid in Renaissance art ) and busts of Roman emperors, can be dated to 1661, a period in which the first decorative phase of the Royal Palace of Turin is located. Decorated with polychrome marble, it has a plate inside which bears a large Savoy coat of arms and is equipped with nineteenth-century wrought-iron wings. The intervention includes a preparatory and precautionary pre-consolidation analysis, which will be followed by cleaning, washing, gluing the fragments, grouting and, finally, consolidating and applying a protective coating. All the phases of the restoration will be documented through the resumption of a
webcam that will follow the progress of the work live and will be connected to the SkylineWebcams portal.
The intervention is supported by the Palazzetti Group and will be carried out by the Piedmontese restoration company Nicola Restauri. EnJoy EnJoy
