Watertown is a city located in Jefferson County in the northern part of New York State, USA. Public Square faced a significant setback in 1849 when a fire broke out, destroying much of the square and adjacent streets. However, it was promptly rebuilt, featuring three parks at its center and a striking Soldiers and Sailors Monument. In the 21st century, existing buildings were refurbished, new businesses moved in, and infrastructure improvements were made. Notable individuals and inventions are associated with Public Square. Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed a monument to New York Governor Roswell P. Flower in 1902. The Paddock Arcade, built in 1850, claims to be the oldest continuously operating covered mall in the United States.
