Agios Athanasios

The Agios Athanasios or Tsegani is a traditional village in the foothills of mount Voras Kaimaktsalan, on the top Piperitsa next to lake Vegoritida at 1,200 meters altitude. It is 28 km from the city of Edessa and only 10 km from the ski center Kaimaktsalan.

The preserved village of Agios Athanasios built in the late 16th century and was populated until the late 1980s that time, the inhabitants fled and settled in the new village, 6 km below. The traditional Macedonian architecture of St. Athanasios is based on carved stone and wood. The stone houses of the village with wonderful tiled roofs is why St. Athanasius called "Stone Village".

The until recently deserted Agios Athanasios has become one of the most popular winter resorts of Greece, attracting every year thousands of visitors. The fabulous architecture, wonderful lake Vegoritida, proximity to Mount Voras, traditional guesthouses and restaurants, all harmoniously combined with the natural environment, give a special charm to the area.

Saint Athanasius is the ideal destination for nature lovers and for those who love adventure. Built in a beautiful natural environment and having as ally the ski center of Vora, ideal for a variety of outdoor activities. Skiing, snowboarding, hiking, routes 4 × 4, parapente, hiking, horseback riding, archery are some of the sports where you can practice during your stay in Saint Athanasios.

On the highest peak of the mountain at 2,524 meters, is the ski center Voras-Kaimaktsalan and is open from late November to early May. Palios Ag. Athanassios (Kaimaktsalan) is 605 km. From Athens and just 123 km. From Thessaloniki / win.

Traditional festival with music, dance and traditional dishes of the Ascension, 40 days after Easter, performed at St. Athanasios square. The Fires of Christmas: On 23 December, the central square of Old St. Athanasius light big bonfires and around them gathered the world and have fun with traditional music and food.

The Guesthouse Xionodromos is a traditional stone-built guesthouse in the center of Agios Athanasios Pella. Located at an altitude of 1200m. and offers nicely decorated self-catering accommodation and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guests can enjoy drinks, refreshments and light meals in the accommodation café, located next to the installations. Just steps away you will find a tavern and 50. Mini market. 15 km. there is a ski lift, while Edessa is 30 km. Free public parking is available near the property. A ski lift lies within 15 km and Edessa Town can be reached in 30 km. Free public parking is provided nearby.
