A real treasure of the Mediterranean, a breathtaking seaside place, the ideal holiday destination for thousands of tourists from all over the world, pride for Slovenians...this is Portorož (meaning "Port of Roses"), a natural beauty situated in the heart of the Piran Bay (Piranski zaliv) along the eastern Adriatic coast, undoubtedly the most popular tourist destination of the slovenian coast. The territory extends from the Sečovlje Pans (Sečoveljske Soline) and the inhabitated area of Sezza (Seča) to the Tip of Bernardin. It is so near, so easy to reach! Extremely close to the croatian territory, the slovenian Koper (only 20 kms) and the italian Trieste (40 kms) it also boasts its own Airport (Aerodrom Portorož) as the third international airport after Ljubljana and Maribor, near the settlement of Sečovlje, a real advantage for people who choose Portorož to study, work or as their holiday destination...
First of all as world-famous tourist attraction, Portorož offers resorts, luxurious hotels equipped with the most modern facilities, thermal and wellness centers, discos and casinos, shopping centers, restaurants, a rich tourist programm including guided tours and interesting itineraries, an excellent and warm atmosphere and friendly people that will make our stay absolutely unforgettable; Portorož as a very important health center has a long history: reliable sources report that the Benedictine Monks settled here in the 13th century used saline mud and brine to treat some diseases such as rheumatism, overweight, dropsy and skin problems, an important role in preserving this old tradition is today played by countless beauty farms and wellness centers where natural curative methods intertwine with the most modern medical knowledge; they daily offer preventive health care, therapeutic treatments, recreational, beauty and wellness programs by taking advantage of the favourable mediterranean climate and the tradition of the Sečovlje Pans.
Portorož is also synonym for culture: as seat of the Euro - Mediterranean University (EMUNI) it is a lively reality where many young people from different countries face every day the challenge of living in a bilingual place, Portorož was in the past part of the italian territory so both Slovene and Italian culture and language are well preserved.
