Paleokastritsa is a village 25 km northwest of Corfu Town. Coves and sandy beaches, olive groves, lush hills and rocks in the sea and dreamy coves create a beautiful scenery which attracts visitors. Paleokastritsa includes an area of six small bays and beaches.
The male monastery of Panagia Paleokastritsa which was the only building in the area for years, founded in 1228 has a huge collection of Byzantine relics and icones, and a mammoth skeleton. The feature of the landscape is of course the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea and the beautiful beaches. Paleokastritsa however owes its immense reputation to its seabed, as the rocks that rise in sea create caves which are the main attractions for divers from around the world.
