not a very nice day
Hi Alfred, my brother went to live in London in the early 60's and I came to live in London in 1970. Last time I went to Spartans football club I saw pictures of Effie and the team, so possible you are also included. Must admit I do miss the festa.
Hi Victor, Sorry to hear about your brother. Did he stay in Malta? I sure remember Mananni. When my mom passed away he use to go there for lunch everyday.
Hi Alfred and Louis, Montgomery street is now called I. Cilia street. Alfred you will probably remember Mananni tal ravjul, the shop was just before you turn into Montgomery street. The Spartans football club is now on the opposite side where the old club used to be. I know they have a few pictures displayed in the club of the times you played. Effie passed away 9 years ago. Shame the webcams are without sound,so we can't hear the Banda.
Hi Victor and Louis. Montgomery Street is directly across where the Technical School use to be and then became the Boys Scouts HQ. I believe the name changed to Indri Cilia. I was pretty active with football (soccer) in Michigan USA. I held clinics for players, coaches, and referees. I also coached a semi pro team and High School team. Still love football. I watch it all the time.My sister brought me a Hamrun Spartans big banner. I use to have many football pictures but lost most of them when moving through the years. Will go to the club and look for some when I go next year.
Hi Alfred and Louis, I cannot remember where Montgomery street is. I looked at a map of Hamrun and can't find the street.
Hi Alfred, I know most of the names you've mentioned and probably you remember also Albert Calleja. I used to go to the odeon bar to buy a bottle of coke to take with to the cinema.
Hi Victor and Louis.I remember the bar and your parents. I played with Effie, his buddy Turu Cordina, Johnny Chetcuti, Sciberras, il Ginger, Sciclunas, Roland, Louis Bonello and many others. Finished my football career with a knee injury at the begining of the season when I played for Birkirkara then I joined the Police Force. My sister is in Malta right now and she said it was so hot she was staying indoors in air condition.I remember the Saliba family use to go to school with them. My parents owned the Odeon Bar with my brother Joe.
Hi Louis and Alfred, I used to live in the High Street opposite the pjazza Fra Diego. My parents had a bar opposite the kiosk, it was called Tony' s bar. Alfred, you must have played football same time as my brother, his name was Effie Borg.
Hi Victor and Alfred, well its nearly time for the big festa. Alfred my wife"s family the VASSALLO lived in Montgomery st, and at the Odeon do remember who ran the kiosk it was the Saliba Family they are here in Melbourne as well. how about you Victor ?
Hi Victor, I was brought up on Montgomery Street, went to the Technical School, saw many movies at the Odeon, went to Kuncizzjoni Church many times. Sakristan was Burlo and remember Father Vella. I played football for the Hamrun School and Hamrun Spartans from 1954 to 1958 while I was an apprentice at the Dockyard. Was a policeman and sergeant from 1958 until 1964 when we left Malta for Canada. In 1968 we moved to the States. My sister and her husband visited me from Sydney Australia for three weeks, just left Sunday to go to Malta for San Gejtanu. Went to Malta five times. the last time was 1987. Planning to take my whole family next year.
Hot enough in Malta today 4/08/17, 41°. Need more than cisk to cool down.
hope it will not be as hot on the 13 th or they will run out of CISK
