Can't wait to do this again. If you want a good look at the viaduct from a pedestrian point of view, the Rhaetian Railway website has a link to a virtual webhike, stage 10 goes by here. Wonderful!

It would be interesting if occasionally a red Steam locomotive with classic coaches runs along this line, with steam coming out of its chimney, it would be an even more nostalgic sight! Surely, these trains should be brought out of museums as they are in the United Kingdom!

The spiral viaduct is 110 meters long, has a horizontal radius of curvature of 70 meters, a longitudinal slope of 7%, and is made up of nine spans, each 10 meters in length. The viaduct lifts the train by 20 meters. The stone-built viaduct was opened on 1 July 1908, upon the opening of the Tirano–Poschiavo section of the Bernina Railway. In 1943, the whole of that railway company was taken over by the Rhaetian Railway, which still owns and uses the spiral viaduct today.

I don't think I saw snow here at all last winter. So happy to see such a seasonal scene and the trains look so much nicer in the snow.

I went by in September and made sure I looked at the car. It's a Lancia, maybe that's why it never moves.....
