28nov18--The huge shooting star that comes out from the Arena di Verona welcomes us to the Venetian Christmas. The star symbolizes the one which led the Three Wise Men to the birthplace of Jesus. It is erected at Piazza Bra every year since 1984 and it has become an intrinsic part of the Christmas experience in Verona. The white iron structure reachs 70 metres height and weighs a staggering 78 tons. EnJoy , Thanks Liliya , again your photographs are a great addition, %arc's first in the library is special too.
26nov18--Kay, Thank You. Beautiful comment. Maybe next year for an opera event. ;-)
NICE KAY NICE NANCY!!! !!!! we go
We were very fortunate to be in Verona this summer during opera season. We saw Aida and it was spectacular!
Where to start Capture Sam! Been to Verona 3 times now and each trip has been a bit different. I’ll maybe do this in 3 parts so as not to bore you with a long ramble! Our first time took in Venice and Milan. Venice was crazy busy and a little overwhelming. What I did enjoy was the meandering walk back to the train station through much quieter streets. Yes, the boat trip into Venice along the grand canal is spectacular but just weaving in and out of the narrow streets was quite lovely and much quieter. I confess we didn’t go into any galleries as the queues were big and we hadn’t pre-arranged tickets so I can’t comment there I’m afraid. Milan was as I expected and a bit more commercial but the cathedral was the real stand out. The interior is breathtaking but I would urge people to get up into the roof space. You will see the cathedral from a totally different perspective and the views are stunning. Back in Verona, the Giardino Giusti are a must. A quiet haven of Renaissance gardens. I was truly blown away by them - I couldn’t take photos quick enough! It is a bit off the beaten track but so worth finding as it is never that busy. Finally for tonight, the basilica of San Zeno Maggiore is a must. San Zeno is slightly out of the centre of Verona but still easy walking and well worth it. The exterior is quite simple but my goodness the interior is spectacular! The piazza San Zeno is also home to my favourite pizzeria Rosa Blu. A quick mention to the Arena too which is in remarkably good condition. I would like to have seen an opera but we always seem to miss the by a few days - think my other half does that deliberately sometimes....
