Hi Gert. Lovely autumnal colours tonight.
07:25 Sun is coming up, very pretty.
Hallgrímskirkja is the largest church in the country, and towers over the centre of Reykjavík. Its 73-metre-high tower provides a wonderful 360° view over all Reykjavík, the mountains around and the ocean streaching west to Greenland and the Americas. Because of this, the tower is among the most visited tourist destinations in Reykjavík.
I have finally found out why so many people enter this church: "The church is also used as an observation tower. An observer can take a lift up to the viewing deck and view Reykjavík and the surrounding mountains." The view must be spectacular as the tower is over 70 m tall.
A very atmospheric scene tonight, 20.40 local time and shrouded with cloud.
It's 19.47 local time and I can see people going into the church now Barbara.
What is interesting, quite a lot of people visit this church, even on week-days. Are they tourists or they go to pray?

21.46 on10th August and the church looks absolutely stunning!
Looks gorgeous tonight, beautiful Church with a lovely sky behind it.
22.08 local time, the sky is pink and blue - everything looks beautiful just like a water colour painting.
My first time on here, what a stunning building the church is.
Horrible day in Iceland. Trees are swaying and can hardly see out of camera because of so much rain! Ugh, and it's July 18th.
Agree, it's kinda weird but a nice weird to be watching Reykjavík late at night. Was there a few years ago, loved it.
