Jonathan I think the weather has gone topsy turvy in countries all around. We have to take what comes I,m afraid. Enjoy the flowers!.

We have had one of the wettest winters for a long time, but that does mean that the island is green and there are lots of wild flowers. From next week I am told the weather will be drier, hopefully we will have good weather for Greek Easter at the end of April.

Apologies, some better punctuation was required in previous comment. What I meant to say is that in May there can be a big difference between land and sea temperatures whereas at the moment the land and sea temperatures can be about the same. Either way, I still prefer swimming here compared to the UK!

The sea temperature is around 17C at the moment which is the same as the sea temperature in the UK in August. So, if you have swum in the sea in the UK in August then that is what the sea feels like here at the moment. The sea here is never freezing cold it is just relative to the land temperature, so towards the end of May the difference between land and sea is quite marked. Many days around this time of year the sea is warmer than the land air temperature, so once in the water it is fine - it is the getting out that is the problem!

Thanks loulou, I will remember that. I just thought that it was due to the pebbles, never thought of a sea in Greece being cold!

Rhodes

Rhodes is a Greek island located in the southeastern Aegean. It is the third most populated Greek island after Crete and Evia. Rhodes, the island of Knights, offers to its visitors a journey into the past, party till the morning, cosmopolitan resorts and beautiful isolated beaches. As you can imagine, Rhodes is a place of contrasts. Located at the crossroads of two major sea lanes of the Mediterranean, the Aegean Sea and the coast of the Middle East. One of the main attractions of the island is the medieval city, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is the largest and best preserved fortified city in Europe with many monuments of Hellenistic, Byzantine, Medieval and Ottoman times. Moreover, the springs of Kallithea, the antiquities of Ialyssos and the Acropolis of Lindos, reveal only a small part of the rich heritage of the island. Near the city of Rhodes is the green valley of the Butterflies, a magnificent area that is filled with streams of running water and countless butterflies that offer an unforgettable spectacle.
