Just come back yesterday. Absolutely perfect weather, clear blue skies & totally cloudless. Water temp like bathwater, night time temp in the 80's (F) and day time 90's (F). Greek people so friendly and laid-back, hope to visit again in September. (Tip: Take the hydrofoil to Turkey from Rhodes town and visit Marmaris on the Turkish Riviera & resort, their bazar is absolutely massive).

Seems more calmer today and a little less of a breeze. Still nice blue sky and sunny weather though. Everyone out doing their bizz. and looking so peaceful, who'd-a thought there was an earthquake just a few miles away only recently.

Katherine, I am being very careful with my posts and my "feeling the heat" comment was meant to be a light hearted dig at myself for causing an issue in the first place. So it was foresight rather than naivety.

Oh! ... as for her "Children play nicely!" post, I believe that correctional behaviour should start at home first, and that you should practice what you preach.

Jonathan, Jonathan, I was hoping you wouldn’t take the double edged bait that loulou played you. She was hoping to be sarcastic on one end and possibly insight a further feud with the other. Luckily you only took a small bite of her apple with your response, and this perhaps through your nativity or foresight saved any additional trauma being created, so well done.

Apparently there has been 34 earthquakes in the triangulated area of Kos, Turkey and Rhodes over the last year, and a total of 176 throughout Greece as a whole. Rhodes had a comparable one last year in September (5.2) but todays was a bit further away and deep but higher (6.5) on the scale and it felt similar to that.

Rhodes historically has had major earthquakes which toppled the Colossus of Rhodes on one occasion, and another that flattened Ialysos former main city/harbour before being established in Lindos and then Rhodes town (named after the island). Although there has been many earthquakes over the years they have not been very major whereby it has had extreme tragic effects luckily.

As for climbing to a monastery when an earthquakes strikes, I think you would be better off than someone trapped in a building especially in old town Rhodes where the streets are so narrow. My advice find an overhang, cuddle in and make yourselves as small as possible and then cross your fingers.

Earthquake felt in Rhodes at 1.30 this morning, glad we are back, but feel for the many visitors must be scary. It did cross my mind on the last day when walking up the mountain to the Monastery, what if we had a quake halfway up!!

Not sure what the temperature is today but I have certainly been feeling the heat recently.............
Glad all seems to be sorted though, I am back out to Greece in a few weeks, hopefully the weather in September and October is as good as last year.

Oh no it's not! ...... It's a sound you hear in Rhodes (Greece) when a person tries to eat an ice-cream so fast before it melts in extraordinary hot weather, and by doing so bites their tongue! ROFL :-)

Rhodes

Rhodes is a Greek island located in the southeastern Aegean. It is the third most populated Greek island after Crete and Evia. Rhodes, the island of Knights, offers to its visitors a journey into the past, party till the morning, cosmopolitan resorts and beautiful isolated beaches. As you can imagine, Rhodes is a place of contrasts. Located at the crossroads of two major sea lanes of the Mediterranean, the Aegean Sea and the coast of the Middle East. One of the main attractions of the island is the medieval city, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is the largest and best preserved fortified city in Europe with many monuments of Hellenistic, Byzantine, Medieval and Ottoman times. Moreover, the springs of Kallithea, the antiquities of Ialyssos and the Acropolis of Lindos, reveal only a small part of the rich heritage of the island. Near the city of Rhodes is the green valley of the Butterflies, a magnificent area that is filled with streams of running water and countless butterflies that offer an unforgettable spectacle.
